Laura Smith

​Laura Smith is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the founder of Serenity Therapy and Wellness, LLC. With 15 years of experience, Laura has worked in various therapeutic settings, including outpatient care, community-based programs, in-home therapy, and private practice. Laura has completed specialized training in Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International and is extensively trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); she has participated in a clinical research trial studying its effectiveness in treating young adults with mental health and substance use issues.

 

Her career began as a case manager, helping elderly and disabled individuals access essential home care and mental health services. This experience sparked her passion for providing community-based care and much of Laura's work continued with providing in-home therapeutic services for adolescents, young adults, and families involved with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the Juvenile Justice system. Laura has experience working with people who suffer from a range of mental health and behavioral issues and specializes in treating Anxiety and Depressive Disorders. Laura has a particular affinity for working with young adults and college-aged individuals as they navigate significant life transitions; and focuses treatment around self-discovery, building self-awareness and gaining a sense of autonomy.

In addition to her professional background, Laura is also a mother, which deepens her understanding of the challenges surrounding parenthood. Laura specializes in maternal and paternal mental health and is passionate about helping individuals navigate the complexities of becoming a parent and build confidence with their new roles and identity during this period of adjustment. ​

Laura's approach is grounded in warmth, authenticity and relatability so that you feel supported with everyday life needs. She believes in working alongside and partnering with people in an honest manner; where you can be yourself and allow a space for reflection. While Laura provides an outlet for expression, she will also challenge where needed and use opportunities for learning. Laura utilizes CBT techniques to help uncover core beliefs and thought patterns, and will guide you through understanding the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. This process will offer insight and new perspectives so that you can develop tools for how to manage life’s demands and unexpected difficulties in a healthy, constructive way. Laura's goal is to help you feel empowered and gain a positive mindset for making decisions, seeking solutions to problems, and learning ways to cope with concerns. Laura strives to help you cultivate a sense of peace and positivity in your life throughout the therapeutic process.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's in Psychology - Southern Connecticut State University

Master's in Social Work - Fordham University

​Licensed Clinical Social Worker 

Perinatal Mental Health training  - Postpartum Support International
